MaxiLink is only useful on V6 3.5 liter engines that employ the VCM technology. If your vehicle has this technology, you will notice a green "ECO" on you instrument cluster occasionally while cruising. When this indicator is illuminated, the vehicle is in economy mode, meaning that VCM has cut off some of the engine cylinders. This "ECO" mode reduces fuel consumption but has also been indicted as the cause for excessive oil consumption, misfire codes P0303, P0304, etc. as well as vibrations and fouled spark plugs. The MaxiLink, when installed, helps diagnose whether or not these conditions are due to worn out piston rings and cylinder walls, or the VCM operation. If symptoms subside after installation, the MaxiLink could save the tremendous expense of engine rebuilds that may not be required. Note that the MaxiLink diagnostic tool is not necessarily approved or recommended by Honda Motors but may prove to be an invaluable tool in solving VCM related problems. Fuel economy will suffer slightly when the Maxilink is installed. Users are advised that warranties may be affected by use of the product. Honda has extended their warranties on the affected vehicles as a settlement in a class action suite filed due to symptoms addressed above.
